ICYMI: Russia appeared to be testing the waters to see what our capabilities are regarding air defense.
In the space of only a few days, Russia decided to poke the bear.
For the second time in a week, Russian fighters were intercepted near American air space.
Poking the Bear
Two US fighter jets were sent out to intercept a TU-95 BEAR-H bomber, as well as SU-30 and SU-35 fighter jets that were very near our airspace.
Russia will do this from time to time, with the Pentagon saying this happens about half a dozen times a year.
The problem this time, however, was that it happened on consecutive days, so Russia was clearly testing the waters here.
NORAD stated, “This is the second intercept of Russian aircraft over two days.
“This Russian activity near the North American ADIZ occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat, nor is the activity seen as provocative.”
At the same time that they were probing our response, they were also sending fighters near Polish air space, which were intercepted by Dutch fighters.
Now, I don’t know about you, but that sure does seem like an odd coincidence to me.
