Disgraced former CNN host Don Lemon is facing backlash after appearing to mock former First Lady Melania Trump for her response to the traumatic experience of watching her husband nearly get assassinated on live television.
Lemon shared a reaction video on social media of himself watching a video of Melania Trump discussing the assassination attempt against her husband. In his video, Lemon was making obvious dismissive faces while Melania talked about her grief — even going so far as to roll his eyes at the camera while the former first lady described witnessing the assassination attempt as a “horrible and distressing experience.”
Lemon got even more animated later in the video when Melania Trump was questioning how the shooting could have possibly happened when former President Donald Trump was supposed to be protected by Secret Service and other law enforcement. As she wondered why there were so many serious law enforcement failures that day, Lemon waved his hands around and shook his head in disapproval.
“I can’t help but wonder, why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?” the former first lady said in her video. “There is definitely more to the story and we need to uncover the truth.”

Despite all of the Secret Service failures on July 13 during the attempted assassination in Butler, Pennsylvania, there has not been much accountability. These failures included the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, being able to fly a drone near the rally site ahead of the event, being able to walk around the event carrying a rangefinder and a backpack, and being seen casually strolling across the roof prior to the shooting in the line of sight of Secret Service snipers.
Melania Trump is far from the first person to call out these failures, nor is she the first person to be mocked or dismissed for her concerns by leftists like Lemon. The fact that the disgraced former CNN host thought it was acceptable to mock a concerned wife after her husband was nearly murdered just serves as further evidence of the lack of empathy on the left. The mockery is also proof that leftists like Lemon truly believe that there will be no consequences for their abhorrent behavior, no matter how morally bankrupt they prove themselves to be — while conservatives are criticized for even the slightest hint of poor behavior.
However, it appears that tides have begun to change, as Lemon has since deleted the video from his TikTok. While he probably believed initially that he would be free from consequences for his mockery, it seems that the “cancel culture” that the left has long embraced has finally caught up with them.
