The United States Air Force is currently investigating an incident involving an intruder at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

The Incident

A spokesperson for Joint Base Andrews released a statement to ABC on the evening of January 4. “An unauthorized individual gained access to Joint Base Andrews. The incident is under investigation. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is lead on this investigation. Any requests for information related to the incident can be referred to OSI,” the statement read.

So far, there hasn’t been much information released about the incident. It is still unclear when exactly the intruder entered the base, or whether they were able to reach any of the aircraft on the flight line. No information has been released as to the identity of the intruder, or whether the person is in custody or had already left the base.

Biden’s Travel Plans

According to a schedule released by the White House on January 4, Joe Biden is planning to depart Joint Base Andrews on the evening of January 5, on his way to Wilmington, Delaware. Biden’s home is in Greenville, Delaware, a Wilmington suburb.

Joint Base Andrews is located about 14 miles southeast of Washington, D.C, in Prince George’s County. The military facility currently houses Air Force One, the plane that the president travels on.

“Technically, ‘Air Force One’ is used to designate any Air Force aircraft carrying the President, but it is now standard practice to use the term to refer to specific planes that are equipped to transport the Commander-in-Chief. Today, this name refers to one of two highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft, which carry the tail codes 28000 and 29000. The Air Force designation for the aircraft is VC-25A,” the White House states on its website.

It is unclear whether this incident will effect Biden’s travel plans.
