In February, Ron DeSantis disbanded the Reedy Creek Improvement District and replaced it with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board (CFTOB).

This was done to establish oversight of Disney and strip all the special treatments that Disney has enjoyed for almost six decades.

It took a “king clause” from 1692 to get the better of him, and it may not have been legal, but for now, they got him.

The King’s Clause

So, at it turns out, hours before DeSantis named the board, the Reedy Creek Improvement District transferred all of its power over to Disney.

It used what is known as the King’s Clause to transfer power.

The declaration stated, “[This] Declaration shall continue in effect until 21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, King of England, living as of the date of this declaration.

“So, as long as one of those grandchildren makes it 80, this clause would be there for 100 years.”

I am not really sure that is legal, and neither is Governor Ron DeSantis.

His spokesperson stated, “The Executive Office of the Governor is aware of Disney’s last-ditch efforts to execute contracts just before ratifying the new law that transfers rights and authorities from the former Reedy Creek Improvement District to Disney.

“An initial review suggests these agreements may have significant legal infirmities that would render the contracts void as a matter of law.

“We are pleased the new Governor-appointed board retained multiple financial and legal firms to conduct audits and investigate Disney’s past behavior.”

DeSantis better hope that this does hold up because if it does, you better believe the Trump campaign will mock him to no end for getting bested by Mickey Mouse.
