Is the Ron DeSantis campaign for president over before it really got off the ground?
I am as baffled as anyone with how this race has played out so far.
To that point, Trump, even with more legal problems being presented over the last two weeks, has once again gained significant ground against DeSantis and the GOP field.
Lapping DeSantis
Coming out of the 2022 cycle, DeSantis was just about even with Trump.
DeSantis chose not to announce right away, and that may turn out to be a monumental mistake on his part.
Delaying his announcement allowed all that momentum to die down, which gave a huge opening to Trump.
Trump continues to surge, picking up five points from the last NBC News poll in April, with DeSantis dropping nine points…

While Trump is surging in the GOP primary, that is not the case in a general election.
In the same poll, Joe Biden is currently beating Trump by four points, while he is dead even against Ron DeSantis.

When you consider how badly Joe Biden is doing right now, including the latest smoking gun in terms of Hunter Biden’s business dealings, it is shocking that Trump still cannot manage to get past Biden in a general election.
This has been my concern all along, fearing that Trump would beat a crowded primary field, then lose to Biden in the general.
What is even more baffling to me is that more and more people continue to join the GOP race, none of which have a chance.
The only chance the anti-Trumpers have is to let DeSantis go head-to-head with Trump, but that is not apparently on the menu.
As long as this field stays as crowded as it is, this is walkover for Trump.
That being the case, until things tighten up, if I were Trump, I would be going full force against Joe Biden and presenting a plan to get this country back on track.
With the lead Trump has, he should waste zero time attacking anyone other than Joe Biden right now.
