Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) has signed an executive order to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) from schools because the racist theory is “divisive” and has no place in the classroom.

Landry signed the order on Tuesday, prohibiting educators from teaching CRT in K-12 public schools. The Republican governor’s office issued a press release about the decision, which condemned the idea of teaching children to view life through the lens of “victimhood” — arguing that students would be more benefited by learning about the history of the United States and how its founding documents recognized that every person is created equal.
“Critical Race Theory (CRT) includes divisive teachings that instruct students to view life through the lens of race and victimhood,” the press release read. “Governor Landry believes students should be learning about American exceptionalism and the principles embodied in State and Federal Constitutions of the United States of America that recognize the equal value of every individual.”
The press release went on to quote Landry as stating: “This executive order is a much-needed sigh of relief for parents and students across our state, especially as kids are heading back to school. Teaching children that they are currently or destined to be oppressed or to be an oppressor based on their race and origin is wrong and has no place in our Louisiana classrooms.”

Landry also noted that he is “confident” that under the leadership of Dr. Cade Brumley — the Louisiana Superintendent of Education who has a doctorate in education from Stephen F. Austin State University — the Louisiana education system “will continue to head in the right direction, prioritizing American values and common-sense teachings.”
Louisiana is not the only state to ban the divisive, racist and Marxist theory from schools, as both Florida and Idaho approved legislation back in 2021 that banned CRT from all state-funded classrooms.
In banning CRT, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) argued that “Critical Race Theory teaches kids to hate our country and to hate each other. It is state-sanctioned racism and has no place in Florida schools.”
Former President Donald Trump has also vowed to impose a ban on CRT in schools at the federal level if he is reelected in November.
