The U.S. Embassy in Iraq is reportedly under attack, and U.S. defense systems are currently engaged to defend against multiple incoming rockets.
Rocket attacks are currently being launched at multiple targets in Iraq, including a U.S. Embassy and a school located within a residential complex, according to officials.
Video of the incident has been shared on social media, showing at least one rocket exploding on the ground as sirens blare in the background.
“Three of the missiles struck within the parameters of the American Embassy. Another hit a school located in a nearby residential complex,” The Military Times reported, according to information obtained from two Iraqi Security officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to talk to the media about the incident.
A statement from the Iraqi military indicated that a girl and a woman were injured in the attack, though they would not provide any further details. The statement also confirmed that the rockets were launched from the Dora neighborhood of Baghdad.
No terrorist group has taken responsibility for the attack as of yet, though U.S. officials have repeatedly blamed Iran-backed proxies for attacks on U.S. forces this year and in recent years.
