News has just come in on March 30 that former President Donald Trump has been indicted in the adult film star Stormy Daniels hush money payment case.
The New York grand jury made the decision on the case that dates back to a scheme to pay hush money to Daniels in 2016 during the presidential campaign.
At the time, Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen had sent a wire transfer of $130,000 to Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding an alleged affair.
Trump has since denied both any sexual encounter with Daniels as well as any wrongdoing.
This vote marks Trump as the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.
The indictment was confirmed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, who has also reached out to Trump’s attorney to arrange for his surrender.
At this time, the specified charges and are not yet public, as the indictment continues to remain under seal.
After receiving news of his indictment, the former President Trump issued a statement calling it “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history” and has accused Democrats of “weaponizing our justice system to punish a political opponent, who just so happens to be a President of the United States.”
Trump continued:
“The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable — indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference.”
Trump’s attorneys have asserted that the former president “did not commit any crime” and have sworn to “vigorously fight this political prosecution in Court.”
Following the massive news on the Trump indictment, NYPD officers have been out in full force at the Manhattan criminal courthouse where the grand jury vote was passed down.
Protesters have gathered in the area as all NYPD officers are prepped and ready to be deployed on Friday.
When asked to speak on the news of the indictment, the White House declined to comment.
