Investigators have reported that while attempting to apprehend an armed suspect, a Stuttgart police officer was murdered and an Arkansas State Police officer was wounded late at night on Wednesday, December 14.
At it stands, this is still a developing story, with updates and details still coming in.
KATV revealed that Stuttgart police officers were in a motor vehicle pursuit with the suspect before they bailed out of the vehicle and ran off on foot.
The two officers followed after the suspect right before gunfire took place, leaving one officer fatally wounded.
According to KLRT, the other officer was hit by a bullet in their ballistic vest and did not suffer any serious injuries.
Afterwards, the suspect had entered a residence, taking a woman hostage and causing another exchange of gunfire, as stated by police.
Thanks to the response of the ASP, the hostage was rescued, but not before an ASP officer was shot by the suspect.
KTHV reported that the ASP officer was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where they sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators stated that the suspect was killed during the second exchange of gunfire.
At this time, the suspect nor the slain Stuttgart police officer’s identity have been released to the public.
