Breaking: Multiple Deaths in Oil Field Explosion

Multiple Deaths in Oil Field Explosion

A severe explosion at an oil field has left three oil workers killed and four injured. Pictures of the incident show a massive fireball rising above the facility.

Iranian state media has reported a severe explosion in an oil field in the western Ilam province, which borders Iraq, and have identified the area as the Cheshmeh Khosh field. The explosion occurred in the afternoon on July 6.

Mehr News, an English language Iranian news agency, originally cited “reports coming in saying that two people have been killed while another is injured” and featured an image showing a massive fireball rising above the facility.

Soon after, reports were corrected. Bloomberg has cited local reports which updated the casualties, reporting: “Three oil workers killed and four injured in explosion on pipeline that transfers oil from the Cheshmeh Khosh field.”

Cheshmeh Khosh field is a relatively small area, with official sources estimating that it has an average of 18,000 barrels per day of crude oil production capacity.

According to reporting from Zero Hedge, “Iran’s oil producing regions have been known to experience occasional serious accidents and fires, but with the final rounds of nuclear negotiations happening in Vienna, and with Israel being behind past ‘sabotage’ incidents, naturally there remains the possibility of attack.”

This news comes shortly after another large mysterious fire was reported in Iran, just outside of the capital city of Tehran.

“A large fire was reported at a warehouse or factory next to a highway near Tehran on Monday afternoon, with the purpose of the warehouse and the background of the incident as of yet unclear,” The Jerusalem Post reported.

“The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported that the fire was near Karaj, the city where an alleged attack targeted a nuclear facility reportedly used to produce centrifuges,” the Jerusalem Post reported.
