BLM Just Got the Bad News

A bill in Tennessee spells bad news for Black Lives Matter (BLM). Their methods of ‘protesting’ are in jeopardy as HB 513 proposes granting immunity to drivers who unintentionally injure or kill a person who is blocking a highway.

New Legislation

The bill, which also upgrades the offense of obstructing a highway from a misdemeanor to a Class E felony, would include protestors illegally blocking roadways. It would not only apply to highways, but also to obstructing a railway, waterway, hallway “or any other place used for the passage of persons, vehicles or conveyances.”

Along with imposing a mandatory $3,000 fine for illegally blocking passage, the upgrade to a Class E felony means that those convicted would be facing up to six years in prison.

According to the bill, if a driver “who is exercising due care” unintentionally harms or kills someone blocking a highway, they would be immune from being prosecuted for the injury or death.

The legislation was on the schedule for the House Criminal Justice Committee on March 3, and the Senate version of the legislation has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

BLM

Black Lives Matter is known for blocking roadways during their ‘protests,’ which often become violent. There have been several cases around the country of drivers panicking and hitting ‘protestors’ when trying to escape the angry mob blocking their vehicles. Intentionally hitting protestors with a vehicle will still be a criminal offense, but those that hit someone while trying to get out of the situation should not be penalized. Blocking a roadway is dangerous, both for the protestors and for people trying to drive. Emergency vehicles could be prevented from reaching a person in crisis, or from bringing someone to the hospital in time to save their life. The tactics used by BLM are rarely peaceful, despite what the mainstream media reports. Finally, a state government is fighting back against them.
