A judge has now shamed a 72-year-old cancer patient, and there is no question that she should be ashamed of herself for her terrible comments!
A Michigan judge made a name for herself because she not only fined a 72-year-old cancer patient but also shamed him for not properly taking care of his overgrown lawn. This was despite the fact that he was too weak to do so.
The footage of the Zoom court hearing on January 10th, shows Judge Alexis G. Krot of the 31st District Court totally berating Buran Chowdhury.
“You should be ashamed of yourself,” Krot said in her ruling. “You should know that if there was any way I could give you jail time on this, I would.”
Chowdhury lives in the community of Hamtranck, which is just nine kilometers north of Detroit, and he admitted to the court that he had fallen behind on his yard work after he had been diagnosed with lymph node cancer in 2019.
Granted, the property was indeed overgrown, and it prompted local officials to subpoena Chowdhury on August 2, 2021.
Luckily, Chowdhury’s son Shibbir went to bat for him, speaking on behalf of his father and telling the court that the reason the elder Chowdhury wasn’t mowing his lawn is because the cancer treatments had left him too frail to do the lawn on his own.
Shibbir told the court that normally he is the one who assists his dad in keeping the properly looking neat, but he had been in Bangladesh for three months prior to his father getting the citation.
Despite this, Judge Krot said that the state of his lawn was inexcusable, and he ordered Chowdhury to pay a $100 fine.
“You’ve got to get that cleaned up. That is totally inappropriate” she said.
Shibbir asked Judge Krot if there was any way that the fine could be forgiven on the account of his father’s health being so poor. He added that the property has now been cleaned up.
“Have you seen the photo?” Krot asks, interrupting him. “That is shameful — shameful! The neighbors should not have to look at that. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
Footage of the court hearing has since gone viral, gaining mainstream attention online for just how poorly this judge treated this 72-year-old cancer patient. There is now a petition to remove Krot as a judge, and it has gained over 270,000 signatures at last count.
