Now, I don’t know about you guys, but I LOVE drag racing.

I had a cousin who raced and actually dated a girl who raced in local club races.

It is about 10 seconds of pure adrenaline, and, sadly, one of the masters of the sport has left us.

‘Ohio George’ Montgomery

“Ohio George” Montgomery died earlier this week at the age of 90.

If you are not familiar, Montgomery was a monster in the Gasser division of the sport, dominating it for many years.

He won seven championships and a stack of other honors in the sport.

Montgomery won his first championship doing an 11.94-second pass (124.95 miles per hour).

Almost a decade later, he won with a pass of 8.92 seconds (134.32).

Rightfully, he was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2020, and he had already been inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

This is Montgomery in action winning one of his championships…

Races like that are the reason he remains on the Top 50 all-time list of drag racers.

Rest in peace, “Ohio George,” and thank you for all those amazing years on the quarter-mile track!
