Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has recently been the subject of heavy criticism by both conservative media outlets and Republican colleagues alike for her remarks during an interview with Al Jazeera which have been described as “racist” and “disgusting”.

In the interview, she claimed that white men are responsible for most deaths in America. This unsubstantiated statement sparked a wave of backlash from Twitter users, politicians, and news anchors.

Omar made these comments while responding to Mehdi Hasan’s question about “Islamophobia” in America on the Qatar-based network.

He asked if conservatives were right to be fearful of jihadist terrorism happening domestically such as at Fort Hood or San Bernardino.

In response, Omar said that Americans should be more fearful of white men than jihadists because they cause more deaths across the country.

Vernon Jones, a former Democratic State Representative from Georgia now running as a Republican candidate for Governor, was one of the first to speak out against Omar’s comments.

He called for her removal from Congress due to her racism and bigotry towards white men.

Other prominent figures also shared their indignation at these remarks including Market Strategist Kenny Polcari who questioned why the DNC wasn’t countering this hate speech, Dr Sebastian Gorka who expressed incredulity over her words and Kyle Becker who pointed out that this isn’t reverse racism but simply racism.

The FBI statistics for 2018 show that 54.9% of all murders in America were committed by black or African American offenders – not by white males as Congresswoman Ilhan Omar suggested.

It is unacceptable for anyone in public office to make prejudicial claims based off biased assumptions without providing factual evidence to support them – especially ones so blatantly racist like those made by Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during this recent TV appearance which have sparked outrage amongst many prominent figures online and offline alike.
