Well, my friends, Liz Cheney is back in the headlines again this week.
She is one of the names many people thought would have already announced.
Liz chimed in this week about her plans, and I have to say, I am stunned by her answer simply because I did think she was smart enough to realize this.
Won’t Help Trump
For all these anti-Trumpers that keep announcing, the more of them that are in the race, the more they help Donald Trump.
Asa Hutchinson, Christ Christie, and Mike Pence, just to name the most recognizable candidates, have no shot whatsoever of winning the nomination.
There is one candidate in that race that can threaten Trump, and Trump is lapping him in most polls.
That, of course, being Ron DeSantis.
Now, if this was a heads-up race, well, that margin would tighten considerably, possibly even lean to DeSantis, but a crowded field only benefits Trump.
To that point, it sounds like Cheney is not going to toss her hat in, instead choosing to pick a different horse.
She stated, “I’m not going to do anything that helps Donald Trump. I’ll make a decision about sort of what I do and what comes next later on this year.
“The way that I’m thinking about where we are and what has to be done is much less about, you know, what should I do in terms of am I going to be a candidate or not … and much more about stopping Donald Trump, whatever that takes.”
What will be interesting to see is if this race between DeSantis and Trump tightens up because Cheney does not like DeSantis either.
