On Friday night, a tragedy unfolded in the small town of Winter Haven, Florida.
Polk County Deputies report that 26-year-old Riley Groover fatally shot an 8 month pregnant woman multiple times before killing himself in front of several neighbors near their home on Central Avenue West.
Family members reported to police that the couple had been arguing in the past but none of these incidents were ever reported to law enforcement.
Sheriff Grady Judd said “This was a violent and horrific double murder that ended the lives of a 21-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant, and her unborn baby. When the suspect became enraged, family members and neighbors did everything they could to help her get away from him.”
This awful crime has left many questioning how such violence can happen in such a quiet community.
Groover reportedly had prior arrests for aggravated assault and domestic violence which may have been indicative of his capacity for future violence.
