The NFL community is mourning the loss of one of their own today.
A former player on the 1980 Super Bowl Champion Oakland Raiders team is dead.
Joe Campbell, originally drafted by New Orleans Saints, was found dead at his home after a hike.
Possible Heart Attack
The assumption is that Campbell suffered a heart attack after his morning workout, and he was found later by his brother.
At 68, it is yet another NFL death that seems to have happened far too young.
Campbell was a standout NCAA football player, but that success never parlayed into a successful NFL career.
What Campbell did have, however, was great timing.
He was traded to Oakland halfway through the 1980 season, with the Raiders making the postseason as a Wild Card playoff team.
They also happened to be the first Wild Card team to win the Super Bowl, defeating the favored Philadelphia Eagles.
In 1992, Campbell was inducted into the Delaware Hall of Fame.
He has had medical issues since 2007 after being involved in an auto accident.
Rest in peace.
