College football fans will remember Mallett for leading Arkansas’s football program back to relevance.

Mallett reportedly died via drowning in Destin, Florida, a very popular vacation spot.

He had been transported from the beach to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The NFL stated, “The NFL family is deeply saddened by the passing of Ryan Mallett.

“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

Mallett was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2011, and the team also issued a statement.

It read, “The New England Patriots are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of former quarterback Ryan Mallett.

“Our thoughts are with the Mallett family, his former teammates and all who are mourning his loss.”

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford was clearly frustrated at the unnecessary death after warnings about the riptide had been issued.

He stated, “I’m beyond frustrated at the situation that we have with tragic and unnecessary deaths in the Gulf.

“I have watched while deputies, firefighters, and lifeguards have risked their lives to save strangers.

“I have seen strangers die trying to save their children and loved ones, including two fathers on Father’s Day.”

Over the last few years, the riptide has been brutal, pushing Panama City to the top of the list for the most lethal beach in the nation.

Mallett started only eight games during his NFL career, retiring in 2017.

Mallett had been serving as the head coach for the White Hall High School program in Arkansas since 2022.
