I am really not sure what Donald Trump was thinking on this one.
He is obviously upset over reports that an indictment in New York is imminent.
However, after what happened on January 6, it is a bit odd that he would ask his supporters to show up and protest his arrest, but he did.
Not a Good Idea
Trump, as usual, went off on Truth Social regarding the unsubstantiated rumor of his imminent arrest.
He posted, “NOW ILLEGAL LEAKS FROM A CORRUPT & HIGHLY POLITICAL MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE, WHICH HAS ALLOWED NEW RECORDS TO BE SET IN VIOLENT CRIME & WHOSE LEADER IS FUNDED BY GEORGE SOROS, INDICATE THAT, WITH NO CRIME BEING ABLE TO BE PROVEN, & BASED ON AN OLD & FULLY DEBUNKED (BY NUMEROUS OTHER PROSECUTORS!) FAIRYTALE, THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!, [sic]”
Trump got hit by both sides on this.
Democrats started making posts about January 6.
Republicans begged supporters not to protest, warning they would end up getting arrested for no reason at all, which his what Democrats wanted.
Trump, for his part, was looking to create a spectacle and it is unforgivable that he was willing to put his supporters at risk like this.
New York had already announced plans for all officers to be in uniform and on the street ready to put down any protests.
Trump’s warning was all for naught, however, as the arrest never came.
The protest never formed either, as they were more photographers there than protesters, thankfully.
