South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is not going to be happy with his buddy Joe Biden.
Yoon was touting a possible joint military exercise with his own media, which led to our media asking Biden about the idea.
Biden immediately shot it down, making Yoon look like a total fool.
Does Joe Even Know?
With Biden being in St. Croix all week, I really have to wonder if he was up to date on discussions that military officials were having while he was gone.
Honestly, the most prudent avenue would have been to push the question off until he got back in the office to see what was going on.
Instead, when a reporter asked Biden, “President Biden, are you discussing joint nuclear exercises with South Korea right now,” he immediately responded, “No.”
That led the National Security Council to issue a statement to back Biden up.
The agency stated, “As the president said, we are not discussing joint nuclear exercises.
“[South Korea] is a non-nuclear weapons state. The United States is fully committed to our alliance with [South Korea] and providing extended deterrence through the full range of U.S. defense capabilities.
“Following their meeting in Phnom Penh, President Biden and President Yoon tasked their teams to plan for an effective coordinated response to a range of scenarios, including nuclear use by North Korea. That is what the teams are working on.”
Quite the opposite of what Yoon had stated, “The nuclear weapons belong to the United States, but planning, information sharing, exercises and training should be jointly conducted by South Korea and the United States.”
I would imagine South Korea is not going to be happy about this.
