Popular conservative journalist and commentator Tucker Carlson recently made a bold claim in an interview with Swiss magazine Weltwoche – that the United States government had prevented him from interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the same interview, Carlson discussed his post-Fox News activities and the role of media in American politics. Here is what he said.
Carlson described his post-Fox News activities as an effort to understand how quickly world events can change, while also acknowledging that Americans often don’t have access to international news coverage.
Since being fired from Fox, he has interviewed numerous world leaders or candidates, including Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates.
According to Carlson, this leader was unique because he demonstrated a willingness to admit when he was not sure about something – something rare among political figures in Western countries.
During the interview, Tucker mentioned media mergers between private organizations and government interests as one reason why trust for mainstream media has plummeted over the last decade.
He argued that if someone wanted to undermine a democracy they would need control of citizens’ information sources – which many U.S. media organizations are allowing them to do by censoring topics like pandemic vaccine rollouts or war stories like Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.
To demonstrate just how tightly controlled American news currently is by its own government, Tucker described his attempts at interviewing Putin – an endeavor blocked by U.S forces without any explanation or public defense on behalf of Carlson’s right as an independent journalist wanting to pursue stories abroad.
This revelation highlights just how far certain governmental powers will go in order suppress certain narrative voices regardless of their legality or morality – prompting people everywhere to question who really holds power in America today.
