The hush-money case for Donald Trump is just about over.
The defense rested this week, and the jury was dismissed until after the holiday, when closing arguments will take place, followed by jury instructions.
Trump is not waiting for the verdict, however, already declaring victory.
We Win!
I would normally warn against celebrating a victory before the jury announces it, but I have to admit, unlike in Trump’s civil suits, where his legal team was crushed, Trump’s team in the hush-money case did an amazing job.
Todd Blanche utterly destroyed Michael Cohen during the cross-examination.
Not only that, but they got Cohen to confess to embezzling money from the Trump Organization, something he may face charges for in the aftermath of all this.
However, Trump still has to overcome a biased judge and possibly a biased jury.
Even so, Trump stated, “We have a phenomenal case.
“We’ve won the case by any standard; any other judge would have thrown this case, any other judge would have thrown this case out.
“And I think that Juan Merchan would do himself and the state and the city a great service by doing what everybody knows should be done.
“I will be doing something in the morning and then probably coming back in the afternoon, and we’ll be resting pretty quickly.
“Resting, meaning resting the case. I won’t be resting. I don’t rest. I’d like to rest sometimes, but I don’t get to rest. But we are.”
The only so-called legal experts who disagreed were the ones who wanted to see Trump behind bars.
Just about everyone else agreed that Trump should win this case but if the jury does not acquit, it is likely that the decision will be overturned on appeal.
The even better news for Trump is that it now appears as though the rest of the cases will be delayed until after the election, so he goes from having to dodge four bullets to just one, arguably the weakest case of all that was filed against Trump.
