A top Democrat in Oregon was double dipping… and got caught.
Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan, a Democrat, was also working for a marijuana company as a consultant.
She has now been forced to resign over a clear conflict of interest.
Can’t Do That
Fagan’s resignation will be effective May 8.
After she steps down, the department will be run by Deputy Secretary Cheryl Myers until a new boss is appointed.
Fagan stated, “Protecting our state’s democracy and ensuring faith in our elected leaders – these are the reasons I ran for this office.
“They are also the reasons I will be submitting my resignation today.
“At this time, I believe it is in the best interest of our state for me to focus on my children, my family, and personal reflection so that the Secretary of State can continue to offer the exemplary customer service Oregonians deserve.”
This protector of our democracy was being paid $10,000 a month plus bonuses if legislation benefitting the company was pushed through.
She also happened to take the position that newly proposed “reforms” on the business sector were “burdens” for the industry.
Seems to me it was pretty clear she was greasing the ways, so good riddance!
Justin Hwang, the Oregon Republican Party chairman, responded, “I urge the Department of Justice and the member’s state ethics to thoroughly and immediately investigate what happened.
“This is the culture Salem Democrats have created and the leaders who run our state act.
“From Kitzhaber’s crimes to Kate Brown and Comcast to this it’s sad and shameful.
“It’s sad because Oregonians don’t trust their government or their leadership.
“Oregon is a mess because of failed Oregon Democrats.”
