Some of the most dangerous cases that police respond to are mental health cases.
Yet, that is exactly where Democrats want the police to back off.
New Democrat legislation would send mental health professionals on these calls rather than officers.
Disaster Waiting to Happen
The Mental Health Justice Act would provide training and hiring funds for mental health professionals to be sent on 9-1-1 calls “in lieu of law enforcement officers.”
This is the brainchild of Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA).
She is a California Democrat, and they have done such wonderful things for this country so far, so we can see where this is headed.
Porter stated, “We should be connecting people in crisis to care, not tossing them in jail.
“Mental illness is not a crime, and we have to stop treating it like one.
“Most police officers are not trained to care for individuals experiencing mental health crises, which too often tragically leads to unnecessary violence.”
This could be considered a budgetary bill since there is financing involved, which means it could be rammed through via reconciliation.
But I have one question… who takes the heat when one of these health professionals knocks on a door and it opens with someone firing a gun or lunging at them with a knife?
My guess is that Porter will be nowhere to be found then.
