One of the most iconic voices for Gen Xers has passed away.
Irene Cara, who wrote, sung, and starred in the movie under the same title, “Fame,” has passed away.
Cara was only 63 years old.
Two Iconic Songs
Two movies and songs that Gen X know are “Fame” and “Flashdance … What a Feeling.”
Cara was already landing leading roles when she truly blew up the scene in “Fame.”
She also played one of the leads in the movie, starring as Coco Hernandez.
Her performance got her nominated for two Grammy Awards, but she did not bring home the hardware until 1983 for “Flashdance.”
She won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal that year.
She also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
How she died is not yet known, as her publicist only announced her death on Cara’s social media page.
She wrote, “This is the absolute worst part of being a publicist. I can’t believe I’ve had to write this, let alone release the news.
“Please share your thoughts and memories of Irene.
“I’ll be reading each and every one of them and know she’ll be smiling from Heaven. She adored her fans.”
Moore added, “She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films.”
