Democrats are not backing down from the Trump-era Secret Service team.
They want texts from agents between January 5 and 6 and they are not going to stop until they get them.
To that point, the January 6 Select Committee has now filed a subpoena to force the Secret Service to turn the texts over.
Give Them Up
According to the Secret Service, all requested texts were already turned over.
However, there were apparently more texts the committee did not know about.
Those texts came about via an IG investigation which hinted that the texts had been deleted on purpose.
The Secret Service responded, stating that the missing texts were lost in a device exchange update during that period.
The IG for Homeland Security and the Committee are not being so subtle that the texts were deleted to cover for Trump.
Agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi responded to the insinuations, stating, “The insinuation that the Secret Service maliciously deleted text messages following a request is false.
“In fact, the Secret Service has been fully cooperating with the OIG in every respect — whether it be interviews, documents, emails, or texts.”
The Secret Service added that the migration was underway long before the committee requested any information.
Reports broke on Tuesday that those texts are unrecoverable, so it will be very interesting to see how far the committee wants to go in pressing the Secret Service.
