In an age where the internet has made it easier than ever to judge others from the anonymity of a computer, those with a career in front of cameras are particularly vulnerable to negative comments about their appearance.
Such was the case for Kristen Nicole, news anchor for “Good Day Chicago” and soon-to-be mother of two, who recently experienced criticism for showing her baby bump while on air.
Here’s how she responded.
Kristen Nicole was seated behind a news desk wearing a form-fitting blue dress when viewers began complaining about her pregnant state, according to AOL.
It seemed that three emails came through from different people – Karen, Gene and Sabrina – all expressing offense at seeing her baby bump on screen.
One even accused her of trying to boost ratings by wearing a fake bump.
Another commented that she should have dressed more conservatively given her condition.
Rather than let such negativity affect her day or detract from what should be an exciting time in life, Kristen took to Facebook with a powerful response.
She confirmed that she wears this same dress once per month and has no intention of stopping now just because some people had something negative to say.
In fact, she urged them to use their time better – pay someone a compliment or do good deed instead.
Her post ended with gratitude towards those who had sent messages of congratulations throughout her pregnancy journey thus far and excitement for meeting their new addition very soon.
It was clear that many were inspired by Kristen’s message as praise came pouring in via social media comments congratulating her on how great she looks and commending how well she handled the situation.
It is hard to believe that anyone would take issue with such an innocent display – after all, you’re likely see much more revealing displays simply looking out your window as you drive down the street.
