On election night, House Minority Leader McCarthy (D-CA) promised Republicans that we were going to take the House.

It would seem he was a little premature in that statement.

Believe it or not, in an election where we expected to hold a 20-30 seat edge, Democrats now have a very real shot at holding the House.

For that reason, there is a significant movement in the GOP to resist allowing McCarthy to stay in leadership.

Not Just Yet

Currently, the GOP leads in nine of the 23 outstanding seats.

Most of those races are a very thin advantage with mail-in ballots still being counted, and we know what that means for Republicans.

If they actually hold seven of those seats to take the House, I will be surprised.

To that point, McCarthy has already made his case to be speaker based on the GOP taking the House.

Not only will he have egg on his face if the Dems hold the House, but he will also more than likely lose his leadership role.

After all, how can you reward someone when they have failed so miserably?

To that point, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) is leading the effort to block the automatic appointment of McCarthy as House Speaker.

He stated, “I would say maybe not so fast. Maybe we should have a good discussion within the confines of our internal body.

“Look, we were told we were going to have an incredible, incredible wave. And if that would’ve been the case, any 20, 30, 40-seat margin, anywhere in there you would say, ok, Kevin is the presumptive Republican nominee for speaker.

“But I think we need to have a serious discussion.

“He’s backpedaled on things like impeachment and, in some ways, that indicates a willingness to be weakening the oversight authority that we need to have and the leverage points we need to have in order to deal with a Democrat president.”

His reasoning is sound, and I would say the same thing about McConnell.

There is a scheduled vote on Wednesday for the Senate leader for the GOP, and firmly believe that McConnell needs to be ousted.

Leadership has failed conservatives horribly in this election… and they must be held accountable.
