In November of 2022, President Biden’s U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel to investigate former President Trump.

Smith is a career prosecutor with a history of questionable legal tactics that have been labeled as politically motivated by critics.

He was involved in the Lois Lerner IRS scandal during Obama’s time at the White House and sought to get the Department of Justice involved in targeting anti-Obama Tea Party groups and other conservative nonprofit organizations.

Since then, Trump has faced four criminal indictments, two of which are spearheaded by Smith and his team.

Jim Jordan has accused Smith of attempting to prosecute innocent Americans who had been targeted by Lerner during the IRS scandal.

In May 2014, the House Oversight Committee asked for Smith’s testimony regarding his involvement with engaging with the IRS.

However, he was never held accountable for any wrongdoing but his actions raised questions about how he handled certain cases.

Interestingly enough, while Smith is registered as an independent voter, his wife financially supports Democratic candidates through donations made to their campaigns over the years.

The spotlight on Smith also shines a light on some of his past investigations including inquiries into Benghazi attacks and Clinton Foundation where no consequences were brought upon Hillary Clinton or her organization after either investigation concluded raising further concerns about politics influencing law enforcement decisions.

With all this taken into consideration it isn’t hard to understand why Trump continues to insist that he is being targeted by what he terms, “the greatest and longest-running witch hunt in American history”.

This is especially clear to see when you consider that one charge against him was filed right smack dab in the middle of his political campaign where many polls showed him leading Joe Biden soundly among Republican voters.

Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz recently spoke out against Jack Smith claiming that there was key information left out from Trump’s speech at Washington D.C.’s ‘Stop The Steal’ rally which could be considered fraud if judged according to what has been written into said indictment itself.

This is namely that Trump urged supporters “to demonstrate peacefully and patriotically” yet this portion was omitted from what is written within said indictment.

Jack Smith’s involvement in four criminal indictments against Donald Trump has raised questions about possible political motivations behind such actions.

While many may argue whether or not such accusations should be taken seriously, it does nothing more than add fuel to an already burning fire when it comes to arguments alleging a politically motivated witch hunt aimed directly at former president Donald J Trump.
