A disturbing memo that was circulated by Google’s leadership has been leaked. The memo stated that employees who had not uploaded their vaccination status and documentation into the company’s database will soon be contacted and told to comply or else face consequences.
Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc, has informed its employees that they will lose pay and eventually be fired if they do not follow the company’s COVID vaccination rules, according to reporting by CNBC, who cited leaked internal documents.
A memo circulated by Google’s leadership stated that the company’s employees had until December 3rd to upload documentation proving their vaccination status, or to submit an application for a medical or religious exemption to the vaccine mandate.
According to that memo, after December 3rd, employees who hadn’t been approved for an exemption or uploaded proof of vaccination would be personally contacted by the company.
Anyone who does not comply with the company’s vaccine mandate or get approved for an exemption by January 18th will be placed on “paid administrative leave” for 30 days, CNBC reported, followed by “unpaid personal leave” for up to six months and will ultimately be fired.
Multiple news outlets have attempted to contact Google for comment regarding the leaked memo and the resulting CNBC report, but the company would not directly comment, though they did state: “we’re committed to doing everything possible to help our employees who can get vaccinated do so, and firmly stand behind our vaccination policy.”
In a separate statement, a Google spokesperson told Fox Business that “vaccination requirements are one of the most important ways we can keep our workforce safe and keep our services running.”
Google has approximately 150,000 employees, and its main headquarters is located in Mountain View, California. It is unclear how many of its employees remain unvaccinated, nor how many of those unvaccinated employees have been denied exemptions.
