China has responded to the Nancy Pelosi visit to Taiwan in grand fashion.
The communist nation conducted 11 missile launches, reportedly for a total of 15 missiles.
There were also reports that a strike group crossed into Taiwanese waters.
Making a Statement
This was a clear statement in protest of the Pelosi trip just to let Taiwan know that China could take it over at any moment.
The entire exercise was a mock blockade and missile strike, showing Taiwan how quickly China could move into position if it wanted to.
Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army stated, “Long-range armed live fire precision missile strikes were carried out on selected targets in the eastern area of the Taiwan Strait.”
It continued, “The expected outcome was achieved” and it had also “comprehensively tested the combat capability of the troops under actual combat conditions.”
On the blockade drill, a Taiwanese source stated, “They sneaked in, and were driven away by us.
“They continue to harass us and increase our air defense pressure.”
Aircraft were also buzzing in the area, with an impressive show of strength.
Will China actually go through with the threat? It seems unlikely right now, but tensions are clearly elevated, made much worse by Pelosi putting boots on the ground for her photo op.
