Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is in trouble again.
This time, the media is laying into Lightfoot for hiding data from them.
Lightfoot has suddenly decided to encrypt the police scanners, which has resulted in reporters not having access to crime reports.
Hiding?
Lightfoot has tried to justify the move by saying she is trying to protect the police, which virtually nobody believes.
She stated, “If it’s unencrypted and there’s access, there’s no way to control criminals who are going to also get access, listen in, and adjust their criminal behavior in response to the information that’s being communicated.”
The premise makes sense, but Lightfoot’s record tells a completely different story, so nobody is buying.
This is also a blow to residents who rely on scanner reports to avoid hot areas.
Fox News’ Katie Pavlich addressed this issue.
She stated, “In terms of the police scanner traffic, that’s not just used by media, it’s actually used by a lot of people in these neighborhoods who listen in so that when there is a shooting, or there is a high-speed chase, they know where it is, and they can protect themselves and their families not to go in certain areas.”
