As the Commander-in-Chief, President Joe Biden recently announced a call to action in Europe with what is being referred to as “Operation Atlantic Resolve.”

This operation was created in response to Russia’s invasion of Donbass region of Ukraine and is funded through the European Deterrence Initiative.

Although this is an unofficial move, it has the potential to significantly strengthen NATO if successful.

In order to best execute this mission, Biden has authorized any active duty units of the Coast Guard to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve under his own authority as Commander-in-Chief.

The Selected Reserve group consists of “the most readily available group of Army Reserve Soldiers,” according to the US Military.

All members can be summoned in times of emergency and could be called upon at any moment.

Furthermore, he also authorized that up to 3,000 total members (no more than 450 from Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category) can be ordered into active duty if deemed necessary by both Defense and Homeland Security Secretaries – again, all under his command.

Although there have been US military forces present in Eastern Europe since March 2022 when Biden promised the American people that no one would be sent into battle on behalf Ukraine’s borders or against Russia directly – now with Operation Atlantic Resolve we will have even more presence in Europe.

President Joe Biden’s decision to deploy American troops overseas has been met with criticism from Republicans who feel that it is an unnecessary measure and could lead to increased tensions between Russia and Ukraine without providing any long-term benefits for those involved or America itself.

It remains unclear what effect this decision will have on world politics moving forward but only time will tell how things play out over the next few months and years ahead.
