On Wednesday, a tragic accident occurred in Tamanrasset province in Algeria’s Sahara Desert when a bus and pickup truck collided, resulting in a huge fire that killed 34 people and injured 12 others.
The images of the aftermath were grim: emergency workers carrying victims in body bags, the charred remains of both vehicles entwined with each other, and the driver’s side of the truck crushed by impact.
The cause of this tragedy is currently being investigated by Algerian Civil Protection Service.
This horrible incident comes only two weeks after another bus accident left eight dead and seventeen injured in Bordj Bou Arréridj, located in northern Algeria.
According to APS news agency, more than 300 people died across Algeria between May 1st and July 11th due to over eleven thousand traffic accidents.
These recent events occurring throughout Algeria have caused a great deal of pain for so many families. However, they also serve as an important reminder about the importance of safety measures while traveling on roads both nationally and internationally.
We must take extra precautions to ensure we are practicing safe driving habits at all times while also doing our best to prevent similar tragedies from happening again anywhere else around the world.
It is essential for government officials and citizens alike to actively work together towards creating safer transportation laws across their respective countries or regions as well as providing proper education on driving etiquette.
