Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) questioned Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on June 8th, regarding the Biden-Harris regime’s baffling decision to relax sanctions allowing Russia to complete construction of the Nordstream 2 pipeline. All of this is happening while the Keystone XL Pipeline has been intentionally scuttled, forcing American dependence on foreign energy.
Sen. Johnson asked,
“Mr. Chairman, Mr. Secretary I was part of the effort led by Senator Cruz and Senator Shaheen to impose sanctions to stop the building of the Nordstream 2 pipeline I have to admit honestly I was surprised at how unbelievably effective those sanctions were and it stopped it.
When you came before this committee about five months ago I thought you are completely on board with the continued halting of the construction of the Nordstream 2 pipeline.
I have to admit I’m shocked at now the fact that yesterday and today you are conceding the fact that it’s going to get built. That would have been really nice to know five months ago. When did your thinking change on that?”
Congressional GOP Can’t Get A Straight Answer from the Secretary of State
Secretary Blinken seemed to struggle to answer Sen. Johnson, “Uh, thank you, Senator, uh, again as we as we discussed then uh, unfortunately, construction started on this bad idea in 2018 and when we last spoke the pipeline was well over 90 percent complete as a as a physical…”
Johnson interjected, “Yes and it was it was quite complete when we imposed sanctions and halted it last time. Why not continue the positive sanctions?
This…. I’m sorry your explanation literally makes no sense
So now we’re conceding the building we’re going to do the, we’re going to have it constructed now we’re going to somehow impose what serious consequences when Germany doesn’t live up to providing the revenue relief for Ukraine when Russia does use it as a weapon.”
Secretary Blinken continued to flounder and assault Johnson’s premise that the sanctions worked in halting the pipeline at 95% completion, despite the fact that the Democrats having to lift sanctions for the pipeline to be completed proved Johnson correct. Its’ simple logic. But in the Democrat-Socialist Congress under the Biden-Harris regime, there is no place for logic when it breaks their narrative.
