ICYMI – The Biden administration has very quietly confessed to a rather significant lie.
For as long as Joe Biden has been in office, he and administration officials have been touting 9,000 as the number of oil leases that were being unused.
As it turns out, that number is far less.
On the Low Down
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) updated its website with the actual number of leases.
Biden was only off by about 2,400, as the real numbers was revealed to be around 6,600.
Even that number, however, is a bit misleading.
As we have been told numerous times, many of those leases are not worth drilling on due to high-cost projections and little production.
There is also the fact that Biden has made it quite clear that he wants to put the oil companies out of business, so why would they even invest in new drilling in the first place?
BLM told Fox News, “As of February 2023, companies have over 6,600 approved and unused drilling permits available on federal lands.
“This number has been updated to account for a reporting discrepancy resulting from a transition to a new database in mid-2020.”
Frank Macchiarola, the American Petroleum Institute’s senior vice president of policy, economics and regulatory affairs, called out the administration for having touted the bogus numbers for the last two years.
He stated, “Despite the administration’s inaccurate and misleading numbers, the reality is that the U.S. natural gas and oil industry is confronting the global energy crisis by continuing to work to meet the energy needs of U.S. consumers and our allies abroad.
“It is time for the administration to end the finger-pointing and instead support American production with a comprehensive strategy for American energy development — one that includes a final five-year program for offshore leasing and quarterly onshore lease sales.”
With the website quietly updated, do not expect a Biden apology anytime soon.
