I am having some problems understanding this one, so someone with a legal background please help.
The man who stood lookout while notorious Boston kingpin James “Whitey” Bulger was brutally beaten to death has just been set free.
Mind you, the man pleaded guilty in the case, yet prosecutors and the judge were okay with allowing the man to walk out of court.
No Big Loss
For a second, I just want everyone to remember all the damage and outrage that was caused over the death of George Floyd.
I bring Floyd up because he had a record and history of doing drugs, not nearly as notorious as Bulger, but still embedded in the criminal element.
The three police officers who watched the officer have his knee on Floyd’s neck were all sent to prison.
This brings us to the brutal death of Bulger, who was arguably set up for murder by prison officials, having had his medical condition downgraded, then transferred to a prison where a hitman awaited.
Not long after Bulger was transferred, Massachusetts-based mafia hitman Fotios “Freddy” Geas led the effort to gouge out Bulger’s eyes, cut out his tongue, and beat him with a padlock that was inside of a sock.
They beat Bulger so badly that he was “unrecognizable” when found.
The lookout for the murder was Sean McKinnon, who was serving 22 months on another charge, and has since been released.
McKinnon was being held for his trial, then took a plea deal, where prosecutors and the judge agreed that time served was just fine for this upstanding citizen.
Geas and Paul J. DeCologero, who actually beat Bulger, have also taken plea deals and have sentencing hearings in August and September.
I get that Bulger was scum, having been involved in the murders of more than a dozen people, “allegedly.” Bulger was actually convicted of having a role in 11 of the 19 murders charged.
He was also convicted of 31 of 32 racketeering and gun charges.
Even so, can someone possibly explain to me how someone can be involved in a brutal murder like this and simply be set free?
