Newly appointed House Speaker Mike Johnson has been met with a great deal of enthusiasm, as recent reports reveal that he may be planning to resume the gradual release of video surveillance footage from January 6th. This was originally promised by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, but he never followed through on it.

Steve Barker, a contributor for Blaze Media, recently posted on X that the approval process for releasing these videos and images is back on track under Speaker Johnson’s sanction, with an official statement expected soon.

He wrote “I’m pleased to announce the approval process for @theblaze to release #Jan6 Capitol CCTV videos and images is back on track under @SpeakerJohnson’s sanction. I will post images and an official statement here on X later today or first thing tomorrow. Stay tuned”.

Meanwhile, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has long been demanding full release of the tapes and warned Mr. McCarthy in September 18th that he was “out of compliance with the agreement” that allowed him to become Speaker. It appears likely that similar conditions were given to Mr. Johnson during closed door discussions leading up to his leadership role within the house.

When McCarthy released limited footage to Tucker Carlson in March, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called upon Fox News to shut down their prominent host because “our democracy depends on it” after claiming Carlson had perverted truth and slimed it.

Even Minority Leader Mitch McConnell allegedly claimed this was a mistake however, six weeks later Carlson was terminated by Fox News for airing these tapes – despite McCarthy’s promise to turn over all 42,000 hours worth of footage from January 6th onward which never came true throughout his term as Speaker.

It is encouraging news to hear about progress being made towards finally allowing access to this vital footage promised months ago. If released these tapes could potentially change public opinion about what truly happened that day and cause significant repercussions politically speaking.
