This small Israeli village received something just short of a miracle…and its residents have been left confused yet thankful. Following the initial terror attack by Hamas on October 7, the village of Kibbutz Urim and its 210 inhabitants came out unscathed.
As waves of death-dealing Hamas terrorists flooded through southern Israel on Saturday, one small Israeli kibbutz was left unscathed. With Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling it “the most horrible day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” Kibbutz Urim miraculously avoided any casualties among its 210 residents.
How did this small community survive while others were decimated?
The miracle that spared Kibbutz Urim from destruction has been felt by all. Yehudit Pelish, an American-born resident of 59 years said it best: “It’s really a miracle … It really feels like the hand of God was covering our kibbutz.”
Minnesota expatriate Sophie Stillman who spent some time living in Kibbutz Urim before moving to Tel Aviv echoed these sentiments: “We just got lucky… The terrorists literally skipped over us, they went to Kibbutz Re’im, they went to Ofakim, it’s a complete miracle they missed us out.”

Although no casualties occurred within Kibbutz Urim’s walls, the terror unleashed upon neighboring communities still had an effect on those living in this small community.
Stillman shared her experience during her 24 hour stay in the shelter with Fox News: “I heard so much shooting outside… In a situation like that you start thinking about what you need to do if something happens to you…It was psychological warfare and what happened is totally incomprehensible.”
Similarly Pelish described seeing damaging done nearby as “heartbreaking” saying “On Kibbutz Be’eri they lost 10 percent of their population and that is only the numbers that have been confirmed until now – I don’t know how they rebuild physically and emotionally.”
When faced with unimaginable horror, it can be difficult to find hope amidst tragedy. However many are finding solace in this miraculous story coming out of southern Israel.
