This is it: Hollywood power couple Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have announced their separation after 27 years of marriage. This shocking news has left fans worldwide stunned. Recently, 54-year-old Jackman was seen out in New York City for the first time since their announcement not wearing his wedding ring.
Many have been wondering what could have possibly caused such a long lasting relationship to come to an end? While no one but them know for certain, we do have some insight into their life together over the past few years.
The pair first met in 1995 when Jackman was cast in Correlli, a TV drama series in which Furness played his love interest.
They married about a year later and have two children together; Oscar (23) and Ava (18).
In 2013, while speaking with The Huffington Post, Jackman opened up about how his sexuality has been questioned throughout his career due to his close bond with Furness who is 13 years older than him.
He expressed frustration on behalf of her as she often heard those questions being asked which he stated are ‘not the most interesting thing about a person.’
She agreed stating if he truly was gay then he would just say so instead of having people make assumptions about him based on false evidence.
Just three years ago, while appearing Anh’s Brush With Fame show, Furness addressed these speculations again by making light of them as she joked that “they were shocked when I got married” implying that many thought they were joining forces because they were both gay or something similar to it rather than being genuinely interested in each other romantically or platonically.
Yet despite all this speculation about their relationship status prior to marriage they did manage to stay committed to each other for an impressive 27 years before finally deciding it was time to split ways much to everyone’s surprise including themselves as proven by their joint statement saying “we undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness.”
