A man who gets paid to get physical with people just lost his job for getting a little too physical.
CM Punk, a longtime WWE wrestler and now a former AEW wrestler, just had his contract terminated.
All Elite Wrestling CEO Tony Kahn announced Punk’s firing after the most recent show.
Too Physical
I can remember when I was a kid, the backstage brawls were the norm.
Well, that is what Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, was terminated for.
As he was getting ready to go into the ring, Jack Perry was coming out from his match.
Punk took issue with some things that Perry had said, so he got in his face and things apparently got out of control.
Kahn stated, “Phil played an important role within AEW and I thank him for his contributions.
“The termination of his AEW contracts with cause is ultimately my decision, and mine alone.”
He later added, “I’ve been going to wrestling shows over 30 years.
“I’ve been producing them on this network for over four years.
“Never in all that time have I ever felt, until last Sunday, that my security, my safety, my life was in danger at a wrestling show.
“I don’t think anybody should feel that way at work. I don’t think the people I work with should feel that way.”
Punk has not yet responded to the termination, but a wrestling blog has stated that we can expect an “explosive” response very soon.
