What do you do when the man charged with enforcing proper conduct of officers is caught breaking that code of conduct?
That is the situation that Detroit finds itself in right now.
A key member of the Detroit Police Board of Commissioners was forced to resign after a rather embarrassing moment came to light.
Gotta Go
Bryan Ferguson, who represented District 1 for the DPBC and was the former chair of Detroit’s police oversight board, just turned in his resignation.
He went from being a top cop to an embarrassment the city would like to have swept under the rug.
While serving as oversight for officers, Ferguson was out there soliciting prostitutes.
He apparently parked in the wrong spot and ended up being caught by officers with the prostitute in his car.
To make matters worse, he asked the officers if they could “help him out.”
I can only imagine the smile on their faces as they thought back on the officers that came before Ferguson that were either suspended or fired.
Ferguson stated, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of Detroit in police oversight.
“After further consideration of the best interests of my family and the Board, I am choosing to resign as District 1 Police Commissioner effective immediately.”
Capt. Jason Bates offered a bit more insight into the scandal, stating, “At that time, Mr. Bryan Ferguson stepped out, identified himself as a Detroit police commissioner.
“A title or position doesn’t make them above the law.”
Ferguson countered that this was all a “big misunderstanding” and said he “has nothing to hide.”
According to Ferguson, the woman just got into his car and “just pulled right up on me.”
Believe that, and I have some swamp land in Florida that I believe will be good oil drilling ground that I can sell cheap.
