With all of the legal problems that have popped up for Trump over just the last two weeks, the DeSantis camp surely thought that Trump would be taking a hit.
The exact opposite has occurred, however.
Trump has had a massive surge in early voting New Hampshire, baffling pollsters and DeSantis supporters alike.
Lapping
Trump is not just leading DeSantis, but lapping him almost two times over.
Trump currently leads DeSantis in New Hampshire 47 to 19 percent.
The Saint Anselm College Survey Center poll was released on Tuesday and shows that DeSantis has yet to make the splash he had hoped after his big 2022 re-election.
The injection of Chris Christie into the race clearly hurt DeSantis, who was polling at 29 percent in March.
Christie grabbed six percent, which was the majority of the points lost by DeSantis.
As I have stated many times, as long as this field stays crowded, this is Trump’s nomination to lose.
His base is way too strong for anyone to beat him in a massive field like this.
The only hope DeSantis has is for the rest of the field to drop out and allow him to go head-to-head with Trump, but I don’t see that happening.
The irony in all of this is that people like Christie, who have no chance of winning this election but make Trump out to be the most despicable human being on the planet, are all but guaranteeing a Trump nomination simply by entering this election.
Even with Trump’s big lead, though, he is either even or losing to Biden in most general election polls.
It presents voters with a huge dilemma with primary voting set to open up in about six months.
