The city of New York is literally collapsing.
A horrific accident happened this week when a parking garage collapsed.
A worker was caught inside and several others were injured.
Garbage City
I never quite understood the lure of New York.
Since the first time I visited the city, I have felt it old and overrated.
Don’t get me wrong… Broadway is amazing and the restaurant scene is fantastic, but that is about where it stops.
The streets are filthy, loaded with crime, and many of the buildings are not maintained, which is a shame when you consider the history the city holds.
The parking garage was located on 57 Ann St.
It would appear that the roof caved in from excessive weight.
Sadly, one person died, while several others were injured.
John Esposito, the FDNY chief of operations stated, “There was a worker who was trapped on the upper floor. He was conscious and alert and moving around calling us.
“He just couldn’t get down.
“We were able to put firefighters up there in the building to take him down across the roof of another building.”
Esposito added, “We’re continuing to do searches.
“There are some cars in there that are crushed.
“We’re trying to see if we can get up close to make sure there’s nobody in those cars.”
The building has a history of violations, so I would suspect there will be lawsuits coming from it.
