A regular talking point for Democrats is that the GOP is going to end social security and Medicare.
Republicans have never threatened to end these programs.
They have proposed legislation that would have hopefully regulated the funding of these programs better.
That discussion is now over, as Speaker McCarthy (R-CA) has put it all to rest.
Game Over
McCarthy addressed this issue when he was on a Donald Trump Jr. podcast this week.
He stated, “Under no circumstances should Republicans vote to cut a single penny from Medicare or Social Security to help pay for Joe Biden’s reckless spending spree.
“While we absolutely need to stop Biden’s out-of-control spending, the pain should be borne by Washington bureaucrats, not by hard-working American families and American seniors.
“The seniors are being absolutely destroyed in the last two years.”
Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) confirmed this, stating, “And I can tell you, we will not be cutting Social Security or Medicare in the House Ways and Means Committee.
“And that is exactly the truth. The problem is, you have all this fear-mongering coming in from the White House to try to distract [from] the real issue at hand, and that is the president needs to come to the table and talk to Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans to address the debt crisis that’s approaching.”
He continued, “Republicans will not default on our debt, Maria.
“That’s why we are asking President Biden, Chuck Schumer, to come to the table right now so we’re not waiting until June.
“Let’s take care of the problem now.
“We need to address the fiscal insanity that’s happening in Washington, and if we don’t, we’re just postponing the next debt crisis.”
Now that they are on the record, maybe Democrats will stop the lying, but I doubt it.
