Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez is out of a job.
The local Democrat had some less-than-flattering things to say about the adopted child of another councilman.
The comments surfaced this week, and calls immediately demanded her resignation.

Mike Bonin, a fellow Democrat, has an adopted black son.
Martinez was having a conversation with Councilmembers Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León and L.A. County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera about redistricting.
This took place in October 2021.
She claimed that Bonin treated his son like an “accessory” and was raising him as a white child.
Martinez added, “I was like, ‘This kid needs a beatdown. Let me take him around the corner and then I’ll bring him back.'”
Bonin was livid when her comments were leaked.

Martinez has since stepped down.
She stated, “I take responsibility for what I said, and there are no excuses for those comments.”
