He really did not care about anyone’s politics.

His entire goal in life was nothing more than to make sure people smiled when they ate his creations.

I am speaking of renowned pastry chef Roland Mesnier, who served five administrations before retiring.

Sad Day

Can you imagine realizing at 14 years old that your purpose in life was to create?

That is the life of Roland Mesnier.

He started his quest when most boys were worried about putting cards in their spokes to make funny noises.

By his 30s, he was one of the most amazing pastry chefs in the country, which is why he found himself at the White House making treats for Rosalynn Carter.

He stayed on for Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and the younger Bush before retiring.

He made everything from low-calorie fruit treats for Rosalynn Carter to chocolate mousse for Ronald Reagan and rich black cherry delights for Bill Clinton.

Mesnier was a true master of his work in a niche that was just as much science as it was artistry.

Francois Dionot, a culinary school founder, stated that Mesnier was the “king of sugar work — spun sugar, poured sugar, rock sugar, pulled sugar.

“Very few people know how to do this anymore.

“He makes roses that look real.”

I remember seeing this man’s creations and every one of them was amazing.

Rest in peace, Chef, as you were truly an amazing talent.
