In the days leading up to the Senate election certification, Donald Trump all but begged Mike Pence to send the electors back to the states for investigation.

Pence said he did not have the authority to do that.

Traditionally, his role is ceremonial and many would say that is the interpretation of existing law.

So why the rewrite?

RINOS!

The rewrite of the Electoral Count Act is to ensure that the role of the VP is purely ceremonial, which everyone said it was before anyway.

That was the focus of Trump’s rant.

That and calling out every Republican that supported the legislation.

Trump, on Truth Social, stated, “So the Democrats, RINOS, and almost ALL others said that Mike Pence, or any V.P., had absolutely no right to do anything but send the ‘Votes’ to the Old Broken Crow, Mitch McConnell, even if they were fraudulent, corrupt, or highly irregular.

“The V.P. was merely a ‘human conveyer belt’ and could do nothing.

“BUT NOW, the DEMS & RINOS are working to pass a Bill that stops the V.P. from doing what he was not allowed, according to them, to do.

“It was all a ‘Big Lie.’ Should have sent back to States!”

The rewrite makes that very clear, “[a]ffirmatively states that the constitutional role of the Vice President, as the presiding officer of the joint meeting of Congress, is solely ministerial and that he or she does not have any power to solely determine, accept, reject, or otherwise adjudicate disputes over electors.”

The Republican Senators that supported the bill are a very familiar cast of characters with one exception.

Make note of the last name on this list: Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Rob Portman (OH), Mitt Romney (UT), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Thom Tillis (N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.V.), Todd Young (IN), Ben Sasse (NE), and Lindsey Graham (S.C.).
