A rather interesting little development came to light in the Donald Trump hush-money case.
Aside from Bragg’s witnesses appearing to help Trump more than Bragg, one other piece of information came to light.
Michael Cohen, who was working as Trump’s fixer at the time, recorded private conversations he had with Trump.
Can’t Trust Him
Michael Cohen has never had the greatest reputation.
The relationship he had with Trump appears to be more about Cohen’s willingness to get his hands dirty when he had to.
That, however, appears to have come at a price.
Cohen had been recording many of the conversations he had with Trump, and it would appear that he was doing so to have leverage on Trump in the future.
One of those conversations was played this week for the jury in the hush-money case, where Cohen and Trump are discussing payment arrangements for a story that was killed in the media.
Cohen is heard telling Trump, “I need to open up a company regarding the transfer for our friend David…I’ve spoken to Allen Weisselberg…I’m all over that, I’ve spoken to Allen, when it comes to financing…”
Trump then interjected, “What financing?” Later he tells Cohen to just pay “in cash.”
This was all part of the testimony from David Pecker, who was the American Media CEO at the time, the company that had purchased a story to kill it.
While Dems and the media have tried to make this out as a favor to Trump, Pecker killed that narrative as well, saying his company did this all the time have leverage over the person of interest in the story.
I have to say, the first week of witness testimony was not a good one for Bragg, as it appeared every witness called did more to help Trump than to hurt him.
I initially questioned if Trump would be able to beat the charges in the first round, believing his best chance was to win this on appeal.
But I have to say, if Bragg continues down this road, it will be tough for a jury to convict Trump on what we have heard thus far.
