One of Senator Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) biggest allies in the Senate has decided she has had enough.
Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) will not be seeking re-election.
This immediately makes this seat a target for Republicans in 2024.
Grab It
Stabenow is the current chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
She is currently trying to push through an agricultural bill that would give billions to American farmers.
In announcing her retirement, she stated, “Inspired by a new generation of leaders, I have decided to pass the torch in the U.S. Senate.
“I am announcing today that I will not seek re-election and will leave the U.S. Senate at the end of my term on January 3, 2025.
“For the next two years, I am intensely focused on continuing this important work to improve the lives of Michiganders.
“This includes leading the passage of the next five-year Farm Bill which determines our nation’s food and agriculture policies.”
That means we can add this seat to the Arizona seat that Senator Sinema (I-AZ) holds as very real targets.
Sinema has not yet announced if she will run again, but we really hope she does.
As an independent, it would be virtually impossible for her to win the seat, but it would surely take away enough liberal votes to make it an almost cakewalk for Republicans in 2024, if such a thing exists for the GOP any longer.
